This month there is going to be an interesting alignment connecting the Sun, Mercury, Uranus and Pluto. The transit is called a Grand Trine. A trine is an aspect that connects planets by 120 degree angular relationships. A Grand Trine is an equalateral triangle connecting at least three planets by the 120 degree relationship. The Sun and Mercury will be in Libra, Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. Usually Grand Trines connect planets in signs of the same element. The fact that Libra is an air sign and Taurus and Capricorn are earth signs make this Grand Trine a little less positive in some ways, but it can also make it more likely to manifest.
When planets are trine to each other their energy runs in harmonious, mutually supportive ways. Sometimes, however, the flow is so smooth and easy that the potential isn’t achieved. It’s as if there needs to be some kind of challenge or difficulty that draws our attention to trines. With that awareness we can notice the potential benefits of the trines and take fuller advantage of them. When planets creating the Grand Trine are in different elements it’s called a “dissociate” aspect. The challenge lies in the disparity of the elements. Air is the element that focuses on our social and mental reality. The earth element focuses on grounded, practical activities. Using a few keywords, we can assume that this Grand Trine will help us to apply interesting, perhaps even inspiring ideas, to pragmatic use. We could do this work in collaborative ways, involving others in ways that are beneficial to all concerned so that there is a collective benefit to the application of these energies.
What makes this Grand Trine particularly interesting is that it combines energy that works in very different ways. The Sun and Mercury focus on the ego-self (Sun) and communication of ideas (Mercury). Uranus and Pluto, however, focus more on collective experience and consciousness development.
Pluto is the energy of transformation. It challenges us to engage in introspective self-analysis that helps us to identify those parts of ourselves or our lives that have become stagnant, boring or unproductive. If those things are discarded, and new ones created that are more meaningful in present time, we can use this process of releasing and letting go to regenerate our lives in timely and necessary ways. If we avoid the transformation, a crisis may ensue that compromises our health, our relationships, our career or the quality of our life.
How, then, can we take advantage of a harmonious, flowing major aspect dynamic (the Grand Trine) that involves both our personal lives (the Sun and Mercury) and our transpersonal lives (Uranus and Pluto)? One way would be to take a look at the Presidential campaign currently ongoing. Which candidate is speaking about new beginnings that can benefit the masses in ways that are innovative yet practical? Which one wants to support the expression of personal freedom in ways that enable us to reach financial goals? Which one is supportive of our nation moving forward, using the benefits of technology and which wants to move us back in time culturally and socially? Whichever candidate is most supportive of the ideas and concepts that this Grand Trine focuses on will appeal to the majority of the voting populace and probably win the election.
When dealing with one’s self, we can use this Grand Trine to make major strides in our consciousness development in two ways. The Sun illuminates whatever it focuses on and Mercury brings understanding and communication of that process. Uranus and Pluto, focus on things that transcend the ego-based personal life. They can support us in the process of owning, exploring and experimenting with our uniqueness, while simultaneously seeing how we fit in the social collective (Uranus). They can also help us to see where we are in the big picture of life: who we are in the universal scheme of things (Pluto).
In the past these may have been non-issues. People knew who they were, where they came from and where they’re going. These days, with social media (Uranus) and the Internet bombarding us with various definitions of reality and truth one can relate to the self in ways that can be revolutionary (Uranus) and profound (Pluto). The results may be unexpected, but can also bring clarity about a renewed sense of self, combined with a new understanding of the world in which we live.
