Jupiter is called the Great Benefic. This means that the influence Jupiter brings to any situation is more beneficial than that of any other planet. Keywords that can apply to Jupiter are optimistic, joyful, enthusiastic, expansive, humorous and generous. It can also, however, be excessively idealistic in its expectations of a relationship, a job or anything else it is involved with. As positive as it can be, it’s always useful to apply a healthy dose of selectivity and discrimination when expressing Jupiterian energy.
Jupiter is the fastest moving of the outer five planets, taking approximately one year to transit through a sign. This year Jupiter will move into a new sign on May 25. That sign is Gemini. This is a great opportunity to those of us of who have something significant in Gemini in our natal chart. It could be the Sun, the Moon or the Rising Sign. If one has one or more other planets in Gemini, they, too will benefit from this transit.
One of the signs that Jupiter rules is Sagittarius, which is the opposite sign of Gemini. In a sense, the transit of Jupiter through Gemini will enable us to integrate Sagittarius’ qualities with those of Gemini. Gemini is the sign of communication. It tends to be curious about a variety of subjects and loves nothing more than increasing one’s knowledge base and sharing the new information with each other. However, if one is off-center, the data gathering could lead to informational overload, confusion and the sense that one doesn’t have enough information. With too much variety there can be scattered attention and a superficial understanding of the material. This can apply to social as well as mental activity. Gemini likes diversity, but too much can lead to empty and boring relationships.
How can we utilize the transit of Jupiter in Gemini that enables us to take advantage of the positive potential while avoiding the pitfalls?
If we are off-center, the energy of expansion in the sign of data gathering and communication can cause us to be dispersed in our interests, scattered with our time and superficial in social activities. We may have fun in the moment (Gemini is a very playful sign) but the enjoyment may be fleeing and void of deeper meaning. One of the things that Jupiter pertains to is higher education and the consciousness that we develop through reading and studying. In Gemini, however, our curiosity could lead to changes in our point of attention We can be drawn to this subject or that philosophical or theological point of view that appears interesting even inspirational in the moment, but then seems boring after a period of study. So we move onto another topic. There may be lots of enthusiasm, but no real learning especially at a deep level or in any kind of practical sense.
Because Gemini thrives on variety and can get bored easily, it’s not realistic to try to limit the Geminian mind to only one topic and expect to develop deeper knowledge over time. It’s more realistic to Gemini, the sign of the twins, to have multiple interests at any time, but to pursue them in a limited or selective way. Think of it as making a contract with yourself. For example, we could have two things we are getting involved in or learning about at any time. One could pertain to something we have to do. The other can pertain to something we want to do. Have a time frame within which you will spend on this new interest. It could be an hour a day for a week, or three days a week for a month, or whatever works for us in the context of this activity. At the end of the week or the end of the month we could either renew the contract, if the activity is still interesting, or we realize that we have learned all we care to about that topic and move to another one. This enables us to expand the mind (Jupiter) in a variety of ways (Gemini) but also going into the subject at a deeper level. It’s also possible that we get bored or become satisfied with our progress of understanding after a few minutes of a four hour contract or after the first day of a month long contract. We could choose to either break the contract and go on to another interest (either of desire or necessity) or fulfill the contract just for the sake of developing more discipline and patience.
Gemini pertains to journalism. The transit of Jupiter through Gemini could expand truth and integrity in our media sources. However, it could also expand the tendency for journalists to express their philosophy or point of view in the story, rather than just presenting the truth with honest facts. During this transit, free speech is going to be a hot topic. That could be in the media or in educational institutions.
Aries (March 21-April 20)
Aries: Your ruling planet, Mars, is in Aries all month. This provides energy to begin new projects, to be physically active and to be direct in your social activities. Growth can come from balancing awareness and thoughtfulness of others even as you are comfortable and confident in expressing yourself.
Taurus (April 21-May 21)
Taurus: This could be a time of extreme or sudden change. Respond to those shifts with flexibility. There could be some discomfort as new and different situations present themselves. Growth comes from experimenting with your need for stability even as you accept the changes.
Gemini (May 22-June 21)
Gemini: Jupiter and Venus transit into Gemini in mid-month. These changes can bring enjoyable social and artistic opportunities. Your popularity this month may require being discerning about what you actually want to do and who you want to spend time with.
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
Cancer: The New Moon on the 7th could bring enjoyable social situations that feel safe and grounded. The Full Moon on the 23rd is more a time of adventure. Expanding your interests and ways of looking at things are supported at that time.
Leo (July 23-August 23)
Leo: Early month could be a time to discipline yourself in your work, especially in making future plans. From mid-month, on the focus shifts to being more social in pleasant, harmonious ways that may also take you out of your comfort zone.
Virgo (August 24-Sept 22)
Virgo: Integrating three directions of interest could be in store for you this month. One is beginning something new in the area of education or travel. Two is networking about career. Third is enjoying stimulating conversation with friends and colleagues.
Libra (Sept 23-Oct 23)
Libra: Early month is a good time to work at deepening your primary relationship. Around mid-month the energy changes to deal more with activities that involve learning. This would also be a good time for traveling on vacation.
Scorpio (Oct 24-Nov 22)
Scorpio: Early month is a good time to focus on either healing your body or working to streamline you efforts at work. In general this could be a very creative period for you in which collaborative efforts involving others could lead to fulfillment and success.
Sagittarius (Nov 23-Dec 21)
Sagittarius: Two big events for you this month. One is the transit of your ruling planet Jupiter into Gemini. The second is the Full Moon taking place in Sagittarius on the 23rd. This brings the joyful expansiveness of Jupiter into major focus, affecting everything from primary relationship to harmonious, loving connections with family and/or enhanced spiritual growth.
Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 20)
Capricorn: A mellow month for you. Creativity, which could involve leadership, is strong in early month. Late month can bring stimulating conversations and opportunities to share your ideas and points of view with others especially in the work place.
Aquarius (Jan 21 to Feb 19)
Aquarius: Opportunities for change are abundant for you this month. Most of these could focus on home and family. This could manifest on the physical plane or be more oriented to simply connecting and sharing in harmonious, loving and enjoyable ways.
Pisces (Feb 20-March 20)
Pisces: This month could mark interesting changes in your social life. Early month this could mean extended family or immediate community. Later month the focus could shift to your family and home. In general, the energy should be pleasant, harmonious and offer opportunities for artistic expression.
